Jessica has performed as a flutist with the National Youth Orchestra-USA, participating in tours to Latin America in 2017 and Europe in 2016 under the batons of Marin Alsop, Valery Gergiev and Christoph Eschenbach. Highlights on tour included mentoring students from other ensembles and helping build bridges with musicians and communities in seven different countries. During a recording of NYO-USA for From the Top show #343, Jessica was a featured solo artist, playing the Feld Sonata for Flute and Piano with pianist Christopher O’Riley.

Shand has also performed as the principal flutist of the Honor Orchestra of America and was an Emerson scholar and principal flutist of the Interlochen World Youth Symphony. While growing up in Colorado, Jessica performed in many ensembles, including the Denver Young Artists Orchestra (DYAO), Colorado Springs Youth Symphony (CSYSA) and numerous all-state ensembles. Jessica is currently a flutist with the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra for the 2017-2018 season

Shand won the National Flute Association High School Soloist competition and the Deveau Scholarship for best performance of a newly commissioned work in 2017. She was also a 2017 National YoungArts week finalist, won the 2016 Music Teachers National Association senior woodwinds division competition, placed fourth in the Montgomery Symphony’s Blount-Slawson concerto competition and is a member of the 2017-2018 artist roster for the Young Musicians Foundation of Colorado. Jessica has performed the Chaminade Concertino, Carmen Fantasy, and the Nielsen Concerto as the winner of the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony, Pikes Peak Philharmonic, and Denver Young Artists Orchestra concerto competitions.

Currently pursuing a dual degree at Harvard University and the New England Conservatory where she is studying an M.M. in flute performance, Jessica is a member of the flute studio of Paula Robison. Major influences on her progress so far include Claire Chase at Harvard, and her former teacher Brook Ferguson, who is principal flute of the Colorado Symphony.
